Do you think you know your audience?
How do you communicate an idea, a message, a product, or a service to your audience in a simple and powerful way?
Our brains constantly filter and categorize incoming information to determine if it’s useful and relevant to what we’re interested in or if it helps us move towards our goals.
Here’s the problem: What you think isn’t always what you say, and what your audience hears isn’t always what they understand. You might have a great product or service and have identified your audience, but sometimes, your audience doesn’t seem engaged.
Communication is an art! Your message must be delivered in a format and language that your audience understands, not what you think they should understand. Whether you’re communicating to a small group or a large audience, you need to first consider how they communicate among themselves and what visual or linguistic cues they associate with. Why? Because you want to capture their attention first and make them feel at home with your message!
To effectively communicate with any audience, find out what they talk about and what interests them—this is where you’ll get their attention. Then, deliver your message in their own language—the way they communicate with each other—and finally, show them how your product or service is useful to them.
